The same day I picked up G3 Ghoulia, I also picked up G3 Cleo (and a 5-surprise ball, because there was a discount on $50 worth of toys and 4x$24.99 does not = $50).

Do I like her? Yes, with a couple of caveats. Is she going to bump Classic Cleo out of her spot as Definitively My Cleo?

... You know what? Read on and see.

My Monster High grail doll list has gotten shorter!

I have had '"Monster High" Cleo Fashion' as one of my saved eBay searches for... uh, a couple years now. Back in July, the right combination of 'not highway robbery' and 'listed at a time when I have money' appeared and I JUMPED.

I paid about $77 shipped (from Australia to California) and I'm STILL kinda proud of myself. I would not have gotten her if I hadn't been idly browsing eBay on my phone in bed the instant she was listed. I don't think she was up for an hour.

So!

I finally freaking got her!

Yeah, I know I just posted the Vampire Kitchen, I do things all at once or not at all, I'm terrible that way. I was actually going to review Pharrah MONTHS ago-- but the thing is, I got her in September somewhere. I live in California in the Bay Area, and right around October... seventh or eighth, the North Bay kind of... caught fire. A lot. We're all fine, we were fine, the fire was ten, fifteen miles away, but it burned so much so that wasn't, you know, that comforting. Anyway, Pharrah got shoved in a suitcase with the rest of my Monster High stuff in case we had to evacuate. ... Because if we'd had to evacuate, we had enough warning to pack up anything we'd be distraught living without (which shouldn't be dolls, but one, I have brain chemistry issues and dolls do help with that, some, and two, it's not like I wasn't prioritizing the actually-vital stuff, like the cats and important paperwork and clothes and heirlooms from my grandmothers and backups of files. If I'd failed at Car Tetris, I would've left the dolls first). Eventually I had the spoons to unpack, so Pharrah was freed, and then there was a 'spend $100 on toys, get $25 off' deal at Target when we were out Christmas shopping for my niece and nephew, so I got the rest of the de Nile kids (the same day Cartwheel had a 20% off deal for DC Superhero girls, so I got the Bumblebee to put on a Clawdia body to be the Andromeda to my BYBY Deuce's Perseus I'm a nerd and they're not ready for prime time yet) and after I got all my Insurance Nonsense straightened out, I rewarded myself with Monster Family deboxing and a big ol' photoshoot.

So here we go. Fifty-one more pics beyond this point, mind your connection. )
Exactly what it says on the tin, really.

Because I love the idea of Cleo having molded-on bandages, but the execution-- having them all the same color as her skin-- leaves something to be desired.

So because apparently a doll isn't Mine until I've messed with it somehow, I grabbed my paints and attacked poor Reboot Cleo.

Super-basic before-and-after, that's Ghoul's Beast Pet (Pet Beast? I get those wrong every time) Cleo on the left, unpainted, and the body of Dance the Fright Away Cleo on the right, doin' a HHM Bloodgood impression. I used acrylics straight from the bottle, as is my wont, did a wash-and-wipe in a dusty brown darker than Cleo's skin, dry-brushing in a creamy color, and then just sort of scrubbing a thin, thin coat of metallic gold, because Cleo. Sealed with my artist's matte sealer.

Okay, this is the last of the accessories I've painted up for now-- I need my Paintin' Desk for other things until at least mid-September.
