Playset Review: Monster High Fright Roast Coffee Playset
Ah, I see, if I sort by name, everything with IMG (phone camera) comes first, while the older stuff (starts with P) comes later, but if I sort by Date Modified, I can see the OLDER stuff I still need to review!

The Fright Roast Coffee playset never appeared anywhere on store shelves in my area, so I got it on eBay after the fact in... uh, probably 2019, but my unboxing dates back to September 2020. I got mine as part of a lot of things that appeared to have some water damage, but you can find it on eBay for around $35-$45 shipped in the US. It's a pretty cute playset and I regret not being able to pay the $15 MSRP for it; if I could've, I might have two.

Back of the box! A little battered. This playset actually does appear in Reboot movies, briefly, which is nice-- it's one of the vanishingly rare little playsets that I wanted, a lot, but... MH was faltering and Toys R Us was dying, so this, the juice bar, and Frankie's desk just... never really materialized in anything approaching decent distribution.

Blurb! It says "Fun is always brewing when this cafe cart is afoot. After a day of studying, the monsters know that a cup of something warm and tasty-- and fanging out with their friends-- always hits the spot."

How do you boo? ... I feel like there's a song that never got released in its entirety like this, right? This is how we boo? Something like that?

Open box!
Fright Roast Coffee comes with the cart, two stools, a lazy susan, a coffee maker, two handled cups of coffee, two to-go cups of coffee, a to-go box, a creepcake, and a very plain, sad little donut. As in Classic Monster High, there's an implication Lagoona sells coffee.

Freed! Oh I miss this camera, this was Mom's camera and I understood the dang controls.
Most of the food items have little pegs to keep them secure somehow.

The menu... explains nothing.

And mine was wrinkled.

There's a nice amount of sculpting detail, though-- the shade is held up by bones, the counter has spiderwebs (and a raised ring to hold that rotating display), the body has stripes and drips and skullettes and rivets... It's just a really nice little piece.

Keep your food displays secure!

Logo on the other end, which I think you might be supposed to use as a cafe table?

The sign on the shade is a sticker, too.

And the back side of Fright Roast has plenty of room for storing more tiny food!

Also, lookit! Feets!
If you don't have the budget for wheels as on the Scaris cafe cart, you may as well imply your toy can walk under its own power! Which would certainly explain why the rotating tray needs to be secured to the counter, as I can't imagine a smooth gait.

The chairs-- well, stools?-- are much more detailed than this shot can really show.

The seats have spider-web tufting, the edges are drippy, and of course there's a skullette right in the middle.

The legs have lots of... sort of banded sculpting, and the braces have, again, spider webs.

And the food! And food accoutrements.

One day, I'll get around to painting the to-go cups.

They have faces!

The coffee machine is bedecked with spider webs, and the mugs that came with this set are really nice.

Back and tops!

I think the skullettes are supposed to be creamer. One day, I'm stripping the paint off these and fixing them; the shiny paint pulls off.

The display! Very pretty. And what a detailed little creepcake!

It really does spin.

And the back has a handle, in case a doll needs to hold it... for reasons, I guess.

The creepcake is darling, it really is, but the donut is the most... boring, basic, barbie donut. It could at least have had eyes or fangs or something.

And underneath, the little jobberdoos to secure them to the turntable.
In conclusion... Tiny food! Tiny food is my weakness! If I had the money to burn, I might buy another set just for more food and chairs, honestly.
I did eventually paint the structural bits of this-- not food, yet, but I predict I'm going to attack a LOT of food with paint all in one big lump, someday.
Like what I do and want to help me feed my cats, but don't need anything I have for sale on eBay? You can always support me on Patreon or throw some change in my tip jar.
